Resonance Frequency Analysis

before and after dental implant

Resonance Frequency Analysis

Resonance Frequency Analysis or RFA is a useful tool to test the stability of a dental implant.  This non-invasive test is based on lateral forces being applied to a dental implant with a vibrating transducer.  We believe that RFA corresponds to micro-motion of dental implants.

Unfortunately, implant length and macro-design impact the implant stability quotient (ISQ), micro-motion and insertion torque.  Therefore, ISQ measurements and insertion toque have limited value as an indicator of micro motion.  Kheur ID 2016

Research comparing the different RFA devices.

Ostell Beacon and Penguin RFA did better than Ostell IDx in the Diker JOI 2022 study.
