Fluoride supplements and fluoride toothpaste
Fluoride supplements and fluoride toothpaste
Fluoride supplements and fluoride toothpaste are the two main ways that individuals that have well water will get their fluoride.
Should we use fluoride supplements and fluoride toothpaste?
The answer is yes to fluoride toothpaste. If you are on well water there may not be any fluoride in your drinking water which will increase the number of dental cavities that you get. In order to test your water for free in Illinois check the link.
Higher strength prescription fluoride toothpastes are available to carious prone individuals.
Prevident instructions (similar products from Colgate exist)
- Adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age or older, apply a thin ribbon of PreviDent® 5000 Booster (Rx) to a toothbrush. Brush thoroughly once daily for two minutes, preferably at bedtime, in place of your regular toothpaste.
- After use, adults expectorate. For best results, do not eat, drink, or rinse for 30 minutes. Pediatric patients, age 6-16, expectorate after use and rinse mouth thoroughly.
The government has guidelines for children that are drinking well water that lacks fluoride.
