Our philosophy for treating young children is to get them psychologically prepared for a lifetime of great dental care.
The main objective of this is to not push them farther than they are mentally ready to go. We work on the “tell, show, do” method. We tell and show them almost everything we are going to do. We do not want to scare or hurt them and make them scared of the dentist for life. There is not a week that goes by that an anxious adult doesn’t tell us how it all started with “this one mean dentist when I was a kid.” We want every experience to be a positive one & in 20 years having everyone say “my dentist as a kid was so great!”
We follow the recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD):
The AAPD recommends that a child’s first dental exam should be at or around the age of 1. We agree, even if your child does not have any baby teeth yet. We can help counsel you on nutrition, breastfeeding cessation, and most importantly, proper use of bottles with milk, juice or water.
Even infants can develop tooth decay after they start teething. At the age of 1, the AAPD recommends stopping at-will breastfeeding and falling asleep while nursing.
Children should also never be given fruit juice in a bottle, nor should they be allowed to sleep with a bottle containing anything other than water.
Our philosophy & promise is to educate you & your children, counsel you on oral hygiene & nutrition, and take exceptional care of your little ones for a happy, positive dental life!
