Dr. Dettmer’s son, Adam, graduated from The College of William & Mary in 2006 magna cum laude with a degree in Finance. Upon graduation he spent 7 years with Deloitte in their Washington, DC  Financial Advisory Services practice. He earned the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) post-nominal in 2010.  In 2013 he was married to fellow W&M alum, Cydni Griswold, and they have moved to Chicago where Adam attended the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago and received his MBA. Today he serves as a Financial Analyst with the William Blair Company. His wife, Cydni, is a CPA and a Tax Senior with Ernst & Young. The Dettmers are often allowed to sit for their “Grand-Pet”, Theia.  Adam remains an avid Cubs and Bears fan…sadly!

The Dettmer’s daughter, Alexis, graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana with Honors in May 2010. She continued at the University of Illinois and received her graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology in August of 2012. She has been employed most recently by school district #41 in Glen Ellyn. Alexis played on the U of I women’s Ultimate Frisbee team for 4 years.  Alex and the Dettmer’s other “Grand-Pets”, Flynn and Quorra (a “special-needs” cat) currently live in Downers Grove.

Dr. Dettmer “retired” in 2014 after passing the torch to the Bauers, although he still pops in for an occasional patient or handyman job. He now spends his free time traveling, gardening, riding his bike and continuing to build homes with the DuPage affiliate of Habitat For Humanity, where he served as Chairman of the Construction Committee from 2012 through 2017.

Mrs. Dettmer worked for 11 years in District 200 as an elementary level school teacher and then for 15 years at First Presbyterian Church in Wheaton teaching in the 3 year old pre-school program. She spends her leisure time with traveling, book club, bible study, volunteering and time with her 2 younger sisters and her mother.
